Wet Leasing /ACMI

A wet lease is a leasing arrangement whereby an airline (the “Lessor”) provides an aircraft, complete crew, maintenance, and insurance, (ACMI) to another airline (the “Lessee”), who pays by the Block Hour. The Lessee pays for the direct operating cost (DOC’s) such as fuel, airport fees (parking, handling and landing), and any other duties, taxes and navigational fees etc. The flight number used under wet leasing is that of the Lessee. A wet lease generally lasts from one month to two years, if not longer, as anything less would rather be considered as an ad-hoc charter. A wet lease is typically utilized during peak traffic seasons or annual maintenance checks, or to initiate new routes. A wet leased aircraft may also be used to fly into ports where the Lessor processes traffic right and the proper permission whereas the Lessee might not for official reasons.
